It is highly recommended that the surface be clean and free of particles, dirt, grease, etc. and as
smooth as possible. Although this product is straightforward to install, best results will be achieved utilizing the services of a
professional contractor.
Tools and supplies required:
- Cotton gloves
- Two inch wide masking tape (over the edges of the film to avoid any adhesive from getting on the film product.)
- Cleaner and wipes noted above
- Sharp cutting blade (ie. Craft knife)
- High-tack double-sided carpet tape (found at most carpet outlets)
- Contact cement and brush for applying
- 3M Hi-Strength 90 Adhesive (NEVER use 3M Super 77) spray (especially for touch-ups)
For installation, film with paperbacking is a relatively straightforward. If the film is curled as it
comes off the roll, attempt to flatten it prior to installation. Rolling it in the opposite direction of the curl is a good start. You can
measure the length required and cut the film to make handling of the film easier for applying. Add a strip of double sided tape along the
leading edge to secure in place and then use a thin layer of high grade contact cement/resin-based adhesive/3M Hi-Strength 90
(works well with our vinyl-based products) on the wall/application surface.
DO NOT OVERAPPLY
It is also suggested that a masking tape be
applied around the edges of the film prior to applying the adhesive in case of any excess adhesive residue. If any excess adhesive leaks out
from around the edges, it will get on the masking tape and not the film. Once the adhesive is set, just peel off the masking tape.
Use a soft cloth or damp sponge to apply the Holo-Walls film removing any excess adhesive that may seep out from the edges. Remove any
adhesive that may get on the film immediately. DO NOT use any solvents for removal as this will damage the film. For edges where the film
may curl, hold in place using masking tape the adhesive sets.
ALWAYS TEST A SMALL AREA FIRST BEFORE ATTEMPTING INSTALLATION
A very simple approach, for some installations, is to use a high-tack double-sided carpet tape for the
outer edges with adhesive for the inner part of the backside of the film. Place the carpet tape along all outer edges on the back.
DO NOT peel off the wall side of the protective strip. Spread adhesive inside the "border" of the tape, adhere to wall, position and apply
pressure (wearing cotton-gloves or using non-abrasive wipes). Once properly positioned, go around the edges, peel off the protective strip
and apply to the wall.
